Susan Anderson Separk is the owner and teacher at The Artful Mind. She is a North Carolina certified Art Educator and is additionally certified to teach Elementary Education and Reading. She has taught children from 2-12 years of age in some capacity for over 30 years. She taught in the Wake County Public School System for 17 years, over 12 years at Durant Road Year-Round Elementary School, as first a kindergarten teacher, then as the art teacher. In 2002, her peers elected her "Teacher of the Year" and in 2005 was additionally honored as a "Who's Who Among America's Teachers". She was also a nominee for "Best Art Class"in Raleigh/Wake Forest by Nickelodeon's "Parents' Pick". She began her career in her hometown of Colorado Springs, CO, where she taught preschool while attending college.
In addition to being a well-rounded teacher, Susan loves to create. She enjoys pottery, photography, painting, collage, sewing, gardening, her cats, travel, and all that is in nature. Her real passion in life, however, has always been to learn and to teach.
Susan believes in learning about and experiencing whatever life has to offer. The richer the content, the richer life is. And if you are doing what makes your heart happy, life is good. She continually strives to nurture that treasure within herself, as well as in the children she teaches.
